      Romania
a) Our school is situated in an area with a growing rate of unemployment, 53% of the students of our school live in the rural area, 7% have one, or both parents working as migrants abroad, 4% are at risk of social exclusion because of poverty. We think that these categories of teenagers are more exposed to drug addiction (and we include here smoking and drinking, too), as they are less motivated towards education, prone to abandoning school, and taking up unhealthy habits, so they need to get involved into organised activities, develop their skills, find out more about the dangers of drug taking, feel part of a community. Teenagers from these categories are more exposed to the dangers of drug taking out of bravado, to overcome their social condition, to find a refuge in front of everyday problems, so the preventing side of the project is especially important. Teenagers coming from disorganised families are also exposed to drug taking, because they are less supervised, they don't feel like part of a family, they are more tempted because of their peers, and because they lack a real model in their life. On the other hand, teenagers coming from families with a good social position are also exposed to drug taking out of curiosity, boredom, to imitate their peers or models. School, as well as the entire community, may help these categories of teenagers to find their sense of identity, self-respect, to build their character. This Project can improve the education of these teenagers with specific needs. This Project may contribute to introduce these teenagers to intercultural dialogue, European active citizenship, personal development based on self-respect and tolerance.
b)We want to take part in European cooperation activities such as this Partnership because this is not only a regional or national problem. We have to make our pupils aware of this danger, by identifying the risk factors and their influence on teenager's health and social life. We shall observe, in each of the partner school, the relationship family - teachers - pupils - community (by permanent dialogue on the forum, regular meetings, lectures). We intend to find out more about different European educational systems, and to promote intercultural exchanges, as well as learning and using foreign languages for communication. We also expect this Partnership to contribute to a better image of our schools into the local community, and to enrich the school curriculum with an optional course: Dangers of the Modern Society.

      Poland
a) Social environment of Wschowa municipality is threatened by a high unemployment rate. Last year it reached the level of 13,1%, and the Lubuskie Province ended 2007 year with 16,9%. In the municipality there are about 21 000 inhabitants and no major industry. Apart from public institutions, it is trade and services as well as agriculture that dominate in the area. Unfortunately, 47,9% of the unemployed from Wschowa region are from rural areas, out of whom 60% are women. Moreover, almost 70% of the unemployed in our region are people aged 18-44. It can be, therefore, concluded that the work market in the area is not attractive for young and middle-aged people. As a result some of our students face the fact that one or both parents must go abroad to improve their financial situation. The absence of one or both parents and lack of control may lead to the situation when the young person, feeling out of control and guidance, reaches for drugs. It does not mean, however, that only students from dysfunctional families are prone to danger. It is a fact, however, that such people often get lower marks or play truant. Our school is trying to give students a feeling of security during regular classes as well as during extra-curricular activities, which come in a wide variety. Young people can search for the helping hand of our school counselor and the class teachers are in contact with parents working abroad. We realize, however, how big the threat of additions (among others drugs, alcohol or cigarettes) is in case of young people in general as well.
  b) Our participation in the project results from the willingness to improve the situation of our students and other people involved. Above others we want to reach the following aims:

  • raising the awareness of the negative effects additions have on health, beauty and social life of the addicts and their families,
  • active participation of the target people,
  • encouraging the parents-students-teachers-local community dialog and promoting healthy lifestyle,
  • encouraging to develop hobbies and interests to fight boredom as well as to make friends and meet new people,
  • improving the knowledge of foreign languages,
  • broadening our knowledge and understanding of other cultures and European countries- promoting intercultural dialogue,
  • promoting mobility,
  • promoting the use of ICT.

We also hope that the participation in the project will bring long-term partnerships in the future, and will also be a kind of promotion of our school and region

      Spain
a) This is a large school with a great variety of educational offer: general studies, vocational training, technical learning evening school, semi presential or at a distance school. We have pupils from different countries (Latin America, East Europe, Africa, China, etc.) and regions of Spain, different religions and beliefs. The social economic status is medium to low. We receive all the disabled and handicapped students of the area, as we have the equipment and human resources to provide the special attention they need. We also receive impaired and deaf students. An increasing number of students have special educational needs, in the school year 2007-08 there 12 students with special needs.   b) Participating in European Projects is one of the best opportunities our students have to open their minds and know new cultures, developing the conscience of being European Citizens. This programme gives us and our students unique occasions to learn and share experience that would be impossible to have without this type of programmes. Whenever we have participated in European cooperation activities the whole school has gained conscience of belonging to a wider community and we have learnt more about ourselves and about our partners. Teachers and students have the opportunity to realize how many points we have in common with other European countries and how can we cope with the points that are different from country to country. These programmes do offer us the chance to develop values such as tolerance, love to other cultures, friendship, solidarity and cultural understanding.

      Lithuania
a) Our town is located in the western part of Lithuania. We have about 600 pupils in our school. They are from 6 to 16. 54 teachers work in our school. Pupils learn English from the second class. They learn Russian or German languages from the sixth class. We don't have migrants and refuges. This year there are 28 students with special needs in our school. We have preventive committee which is made of six teachers. This committee meets with pupils who have troubles in their studies and their own life. We have also meetings with parents of these pupils. Some of our students live only with one of parents or with grandparents because one or both parents work abroad. These students are in risk group. We are afraid they can start to try drugs, alcohol or to smoke. So the subject of this project is very important to have a good experience in problem of drugs.
  b) We want to take part in European cooperation activities such as this Partnership because the drugs are awful problem in the world. We have to try to protect our children. We have to show them this a national problem. Teachers - parents - students must collaborate. We think we could use some themes: "How can drugs harm our organism"; "Help your friend to say <<NO>>"; to draw pictures or to make posters related to the theme. During this project we want to exchange and share knowledge about other countries, manners, way of thinking. We can develop sense of tolerance, acceptance and understanding. We hope our students will learn and use foreign languages for communication.

      Turkey
a) FMV Erenkoy Isik Secondary School is located in the city of Istanbul. Istanbul is a cultural mecca, standing as a point between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. FMV Erenkoy Isik Secondary School is located on the Asian side of Istanbul is a commercial area along the Marmara Sea.
Isik is a private school run by a not-for-profit foundation, accepting students of all backgrounds. Isik provides scholarships to disadvantaged students. Several handicapped students attend this school.
  b) We want to take part in European cooperation activities such as this Partnership because we know that the number of drug consumers has been rising all the time, and this is usually accompanied by felonies, this leading to teenagers ruining their life and future. We think this Project could be a great opportunity to raise our pupil's awareness, make them more self confident. The final products will be useful in the educational process, and the permanent link teachers - pupils - families will be to everybody's advantage. We would also like to encourage our pupils artistic skills, communication skills, team work practice, and openness towards other cultures.
